Trump says US and Iran in talks after he postpones strikes on power plants

Trump Delays Strike Threat as Tensions With Iran Continue

Former President Donald Trump said the United States has reached “15 points of agreement” with Iran following talks over the weekend, according to an interview with CNN. He also announced a five-day pause on potential strikes against Iranian energy facilities, after previously warning of military action if Tehran did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, however, pushed back on the claim. The country’s foreign ministry stated there has been “no dialogue” with Washington, as reported by state-affiliated media. Sources say several countries have been acting as intermediaries in recent days, attempting to ease rising tensions between the two sides.

Meanwhile, violence in the region continues to escalate. The reported death toll across Iran and Lebanon has reached into the thousands since the conflict began. Iranian state media say multiple sites in Tehran were hit in the latest round of Israeli strikes.

Global markets reacted quickly to Trump’s announcement. Oil prices fell sharply, with the international benchmark dropping more than 7% to below $99 per barrel, after earlier surging to $114.
