Iran to Halt Strikes on Neighbours Unless Attacks Originate There: Pezeshkian
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that Iran will stop launching strikes against neighbouring countries unless attacks on Iran originate from their territory.
In a televised address, Pezeshkian said Iran’s interim leadership council had approved a decision to suspend missile and drone attacks on nearby states to prevent the conflict from spreading across the region. He also apologised to neighbouring countries that had recently been targeted during Iran’s retaliatory operations.
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel. In response, Iran had carried out attacks on several regional countries where U.S. military assets are based, including Gulf states.
Pezeshkian stressed that Iran does not intend to attack neighbouring nations, but warned that any country used as a base for attacks against Iran could become a target.
The move is seen as an attempt by Tehran to limit the widening of the conflict while continuing to respond to actions by its main adversaries.
