Islamabad (Daily Pakistan Online): The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has approved bail petitions in seven separate cases involving the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his spouse Bushra Bibi. According to reports, Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka heard six pre-arrest bail applications filed by the PTI founder and one by Bushra Bibi during a detailed court proceeding. After arguments from both sides, the court granted bail in all seven cases against surety bonds of Rs. 50,000 each.

The cases against the PTI founder include charges related to the May 9 unrest, the Azadi March, attempted murder allegations, vandalism, arson, and fake receipts linked to the Toshakhana matter. Bushra Bibi is also facing a case registered at Kohsar Police Station concerning alleged fake Toshakhana receipts.
During the hearing, the prosecution team, including Raja Naveed Hussain Kiyani, Mazhar Bashir, and Tahir Kazim, appeared before the court and argued that solid evidence exists against both accused individuals. They maintained that the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were not entitled to bail and requested the court to dismiss their applications.
On the other hand, defense counsel Salman Safdar strongly opposed the prosecution’s stance, stating that in both his and the court’s professional careers, such prolonged delays in bail proceedings were unprecedented. He pointed out that the state had been granted 63 adjournments in the case. He further informed the court that on 30 occasions, judicial orders were issued directing jail authorities to present the PTI founder, yet compliance was not ensured. Additionally, five show-cause notices were reportedly issued to the jail superintendent over repeated non-production. The defense emphasized that the bail plea was not being sought on medical grounds but strictly on merit.
Following arguments from both sides, the court approved pre-arrest bail for the PTI founder in six cases and for Bushra Bibi in one case, marking a significant legal development in the ongoing proceedings. The decision has sparked political debate and renewed public attention surrounding the legal challenges faced by PTI leadership in recent months.
